A pioneer, the BBCA Association has been mobilizing since 2015 on the subject of carbon as a major issue for the b tment's future, in the wake of COP21.
BBCA is the benchmark association for developers, architects, design offices, builders and investors - over a hundred members - who are fighting to make controlling carbon emissions a priority for the act of building and, more generally, for b timent and the city. Jean Jouzel has been an honorary member from the outset. BBCA is recognized as a public interest organization for its role in environmental protection.
The Association is behind the world's first label for calculating the carbon footprint of b timent, the BBCA label, a benchmark for new construction and renovation, which will be extended in 2024 to include low-carbon operations and neighborhoods. Its work largely inspired the development of RE2020 regulations for new construction.
The milestone of 650 projects, with over 4.3 million square meters committed to the BBCA approach, will be passed in 2024.
The BBCA Association is co-organizer with Sibca Events of Sibca, the world's leading low-carbon real estate trade show.
At European level, BBCA is behind the launch of the Low Carbon Building Initiative (LCBI), a unique method for measuring the carbon footprint of real estate through Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), with performance thresholds in line with the Paris Agreements. Based on this method, a label was launched in early 2024, in 8 countries - Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Spain and the UK. This represents a major step forward in harmonizing carbon measurement and decarbonizing the European real estate sector.
On the occasion of Sibca 2024, the BBCA Association is organizing a three-day program of keynotes, roundtables, awards and news on key topics for the real estate industry.
The BBCA 2024 awards ceremony will be held on Monday October 7 at 5:00 pm during the Sibca, with the first winners of the BBCA label for Neighborhood, Hotel and Operations expected to attend.
Low-carbon BBCA buildings of all types and sizes are on the rise.
A performance label dedicated to carbon criteria, the BBCA label is based on the various BBCA standards. It establishes threshold requirements that attest to a project's exemplary carbon footprint.
With three levels of requirements (Standard, Performance and Excellence for the highest), the BBCA Association sets the course for carbon ambition, provides the profession with targets for meeting the challenges of low-carbon b uilding, and guides real estate players towards the adoption of best practices.
Today, the BBCA label covers every scale of the city, from building to neighborhood and territory:
- BBCA New label
- BBCA Renovation label
- Label BBCA Exploitation
- Label BBCA Quartier
- BBCA Hotel label
- Contribution neutrality label
- LCBI, Low Carbon Building Initiative for Europe
- Label BBCA Commerce (expected launch end 2024)
