Facilitating urban life for over 150 years, Schindler transports more than 2 billion people around the world every day. Founded in Switzerland in 1874, Schindler is today one of the world's leading suppliers of elevators, escalators, moving walks and services. Schindler has 80 branches and subsidiaries in France and nearly 3,000 employees. Our employees, our strong commitment to sustainable development and our innovations are the pillars of Schindler's success and enable us to offer our customers quality products and services.
Renovating elevators & escalators enhances property value, increases availability and saves energy. Find out more about Schindler's modernization solutions.
In France, 25% of all elevators are over 40 years old, and 25% are over 25 years old. A significant figure when you consider that replacing an elevator can save up to 65% in energy costs, thanks in particular to its reduced weight (new models are 40% lighter and therefore consume less energy).
In this sense, renovation is one of the keys identified by Schindler to reducing its carbon footprint and actively contributing to the energy transition in the building sector. This includes
replacing conventional incandescent lighting in the cabin with LED lighting, which saves between 500 and 1,400 kw/year, i.e. 85% of energy, the "stand-by" function during periods of non-activity, which saves up to 50% of energy, and the implementation of predictive maintenance, which optimizes technician travel and therefore reduces CO2 emissions. Each technician knows in advance what needs to be fixed: this remote monitoring saves many journeys. Our modernization solutions: Schindler RePair, ReStore, ReNew and RePlace guarantee renovation that meets the needs of all types of building.
In addition to these solutions, Schindler is committed to achieving net-zero consumption by 2040. These emissions reduction targets have been endorsed by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), the global body that helps companies set emissions reduction targets in line with a future of 1.5°C maximum warming set in 2015 during the Paris agreements. The Schindler Group is also committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2040.
At the same time, two indicators are used to assess Schindler's CSR policy every year:
CDP, category A:
Schindler is on the A-list of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP). This recognition is awarded to companies demonstrating a high level of environmental transparency and progress in the fight against climate change. Out of more than 21,000 companies assessed in 2023, only 483 received an A rating.
Ecovadis Platinium Medal:
Schindler has been awarded the Platinium Medal by EcoVadis, the world-renowned sustainability rating organization. The methodology used, which screens over 90,000 companies worldwide each year, focuses on 21 environmental, social and governance criteria covering environmental impact, labor rights, ethics and sustainable purchasing.
Schindler is also ISO 14001, ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 certified.
