The France Géoénergie collective, initiated at the Université de la Ville de Demain and hosted by AFPG (Association française des professionnels de la géothermie), aims to promote surface geothermal energy by facilitating access to it for public and private users. France Géoénergie brings together users of geothermal energy, professionals in the sector and city planners.
Geoenergy is based on harnessing the energy located in the first 200 meters of the subsoil, naturally at an average of 14°C in mainland France.
Geoenergy, also known as surface geothermal energy, is based on harnessing the energy found in the first 200 meters underground. By harnessing the earth's heat, geoenergy offers solutions for substantial energy cost savings. As a result, many elected officials have identified surface geothermal energy as one of the main ways to reduce the carbon footprint of their public buildings.
Several user categories are represented within France Géoénergie: the State and local authorities, property developers, commercial property companies, multi-family housing companies and industrial companies. Like a Club, meetings and an annual national colloquium are organized to share experience feedback and best practices among peers, as well as the operational progress of working groups.
