ArcelorMittal is one of the world's leading integrated steel companies, able to supply low-carbon steel products to the construction market to help achieve environmental sustainability goals.
As the world's leading steel company, we have a heavy responsibility to innovate, implement and successfully navigate towards a cleaner steel industry. To help our stakeholders understand the scope of our work, we have launched XCarb®, a brand that brings together all ArcelorMittal's activities related to the production of reduced, low or zero-carbon steel. We will continue to drive innovation to achieve our decarbonization goals, and are committed to leading the industry's transition to carbon-neutral steel.
At ArcelorMittal, we developed the Steligence® concept because we sincerely believe we can help architects, engineers and developers work together to build more sustainable and cost-effective buildings. What's more, we wanted our ArcelorMittal Steligence® philosophy to be fully underpinned by science. That's why every aspect of the philosophy is based on unbiased, peer-reviewed scientific research.
With a holistic approach to construction, the concept encourages continuous innovation and enables the construction industry to analyze the social, economic and environmental impacts of different building options, maximize the use of intelligent steel and develop buildings whose components complement each other optimally.
XCarb® steel from recycled and renewable sources (XCarb® RRP) is ArcelorMittal's low-carbon steel offering developed to reduce the CO2 footprint of steel production.
XCarb® steel from recycled and renewable sources (XCarb® RRP) is ArcelorMittal's low-carbon steel offering, developed to reduce the CO2 footprint of steel production and hence of the construction industry. It is produced in an electric arc furnace (EAF) using 100% renewable electricity and high levels of scrap. The electricity used in the steelmaking process is independently verified by a guarantee of origin proving that it comes from renewable sources, such as solar and wind power. This certification is ensured through the purchase of Renewable Energy Certificates, a market-based offering that certifies that the bearer owns a specific quantity (in megawatt-hours) of electricity produced from a renewable energy resource.
All our products available in XCarb® steel from recycled and renewable sources are certified by Environmental Product Declarations (EPD).
