ArcelorMittal is one of the world's leading steel and mining companies, with operations in 60 countries and an industrial presence in 17 countries. Our group is the leading supplier of quality steel to major steel markets, such as the automotive, construction, household appliance and packaging industries, supported by a world-class research and development department and excellent distribution networks.
Our aim is to help build a better world with smarter steels. Steels manufactured using innovative processes that consume less energy, emit much less carbon and cut costs. Cleaner, stronger, reusable steels. Steels for electric vehicles and renewable energy infrastructures, which will accompany the transformation of societies in this century.
Decarbonization is the most important aspect of our long-term strategy. We are aligning ourselves with the objectives of the Paris Agreement and the European Green Deal by committing to reduce CO2 emissions in Europe by 35% by 2030 and to be net zero emissions by 2050.
XCarb® from recycled and renewable sources applies to products manufactured in an electric arc furnace from scrap metal and 100% renewable electricity.
XCarb® brings together all of ArcelorMittal's low-carbon steelmaking products and activities, as well as broader initiatives and innovation projects, into a single effort focused on making demonstrable progress towards our net-zero emissions goal.
XCarb® from recycled and renewable sources applies to products manufactured in an electric arc furnace from scrap metal and 100% renewable electricity, giving our finished steel products an extremely low CO2 footprint. With XCarb® from recycled and renewable sources, our steel products now come with a "guarantee of origin" certifying the renewable sources of electricity. Our low CO2 emissions are externally certified, and the first environmental product declarations (EPD / FDES) are already available.
The XCarb® innovation fund invests in companies developing breakthrough technologies that will accelerate the steel industry's transition to net-zero-emission steel production.
XCarb® Green Steel Certificates are for flat steel products made from iron ore in a blast furnace. We have a number of decarbonization initiatives underway that are delivering significant CO2 savings. We can add up these savings and pass them on to our customers in the form of a certificate, which has been verified by an independent auditor.
